ITTF Tribunal dismisses appeal by Khalil Al-Mohannadi and QTTA and declares May 2025 election lawful

As expected, Swede Petra Sörling remains ITTF President (and IOC member ex officio). We're still awaiting the results of the investigations by the ITTF Integrity Unit, which is looking into the attempted coup at the ITTF Congress in Doha and the allegations of corruption against Khalil Al-Mohannadi.

When the Tribunal of an Olympic IF dismisses a complaint against the leadership of that federation, it is not initially something to rejoice about. Why not? Because, unfortunately, we see too many Olympic IFs and too many cases in which such internal legal bodies support the power structure and make absurdly non-transparent decisions in favour of the incumbent. We are seeing this happen again in World Triathlon and several other federations – and even the IOC's so-called Ethics Commission consistently comes up with the most absurd feints.

Having said that, it should nevertheless be stated that the ITTF Tribunal's decision on the appeal by the allegedly corrupt Qatari official Khalil Al-Mohannadi and his national federation QTTA is an appropriate one. Anyone who followed the turbulent election congress in Doha in May – whether in the reports in this newsletter, on YouTube or on site – and is still in their right mind cannot come to any other conclusion.

Day of shame: aggression in Doha, Qatari officials and their ITTF allies contest Petra Sörling’s election and threaten delegates
With the narrowest possible result of 104:102 votes, IOC member Petra Sörling from Sweden won the election in the International Table Tennis Federation (ITTF) against Khalil Al-Mohannadi from Qatar. For now. The Congress has been suspended. Qatar and its allies will take the matter to court.

So that is the operative part of the decision of the ITTF Tribunal on the election congress, nothing more has been published (so far):
